SI 209 OF 2019 OF LABOR ISSUES
Statutory Instrument 209 of 2019 has increased the levels of fines and affects the Labour Act as follows;
1. Level 5 fine is now $600 – obstructing a DA in performing his duties- section 63 (4) refers.
2. Level 7 fine now $2,400 – withholding or unreasonably delaying payment of wages or terminal benefits- section 13 (2) refers.
3. Level 8 fine now $3,600 – discriminating by not paying equal pay to male and female employees for work of equal value
4. Level 14 fine now $ 30,000 for engaging in unlawful collective job action- s 109 (1) refers.
On the last one we need to educate workers committees on this likely consequence of recommending, engaging, advising, encouraging, threatening, inciting, , commanding, aiding procuring, or organizing unlawful collective job action.
